7 Awesome Ways to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

Updated on March 19, 2017

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and the new life He gives us when we put our faith in Him. As you make your Easter preparations, it’s important to prepare your heart to reflect upon the cross.

When you trust Jesus for salvation, He changes your heart and gives you a brand new life (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our Daily Bread Ministries has free and low cost resources to help you celebrate your new life … and share the joy.

In this post, I’ll share seven awesome ways to prepare your heart for Easter. But before we get to the list, let me tell you about Our Daily Bread Ministries.

What is Our Daily Bread Ministries?

Our Daily Bread Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is best known for the monthly devotional booklet Our Daily Bread.

By His wounds we are healed.

I started reading Our Daily Bread as a kid growing up in the 1970s. The ministry was known then as Radio Bible Class.

Later, Radio Bible Class became RBC Ministries to reflect its vast array of resources.

The organization re-branded as Our Daily Bread Ministries in 2015. The new name allows it to better communicate its identity.

Now that you know a little about this Christian organization, let’s prepare our hearts for Easter. Here are seven ways to get ready, with resources from Our Daily Bread.

7 Ways to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

Despite the name changes, Our Daily Bread Ministries has kept the same focus through the years: sharing the message of God’s love with people around the world. Here are seven awesome ways to prepare for Easter – by reflecting on the cross AND sharing the gospel with others.

1. Share the Hope of Jesus

Jesus said, “I came that [you] may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). This Easter, as you celebrate YOUR new life, take a moment to share the hope of Jesus with a neighbor, friend, or family member.

A New Life, the Easter edition of Our Daily Bread, makes it easy to share the gospel. Our Daily Bread Ministries will send you multiple copies of the booklet for a gift of any amount. But hurry! Supplies are limited.

2. Renew Your Walk With God

Do you want a fresh relationship with God? Read The Love of God by Oswald Chambers, an early twentieth century Scottish evangelist. He is best known for his devotional My Utmost for His Highest.

Our Daily Bread Ministries will send you a paperback copy of The Love of God for a gift of any amount, as long as the book is in stock. If you prefer the hardcover edition – or a digital copy for your Kindle – you can buy the book on Amazon.

3. Download Easter Graphics

As a lifestyle blogger and social media enthusiast, I was thrilled to discover the FREE Easter graphics kit from Our Daily Bread. It’s a good way to share the hope of Jesus with your social networks.

The kit is a ZIP file of screen, email, and social media graphics with the New Life theme. It includes print-ready images to use for your church projects and outreach initiatives.

4. Celebrate Easter with Music

Prepare your heart for Easter by listening to Easter music. Classical Praise: Easter is a beautiful offering from Discovery House Publishers, the publishing arm of Our Daily Bread Ministries.

If you enjoy symphony music, you’ll love these fresh arrangements featuring the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. I have the CD, but if you want digital music, Amazon sells the MP3 version, too.

5. Read Easter Devotions

Prepare your heart for Easter with a FREE 10-day reading plan from Our Daily Bread Ministries. The first reading arrived in my inbox this morning, and it reminded me WHO Jesus is.

Blessings of the Cross is a good supplement to the Our Daily Bread resource. The FREE devotional (see related link below) is a gift from FaithGateway, an online community of Christian authors and readers.

6. Study the Biblical Narrative

Did Jesus really die on the cross and come back to life? It’s hard for us to comprehend. Yet, in the words of Our Daily Bread, “the gospel message is not complete without the brutal sacrifice and beautiful resurrection of Jesus.”

A Rumor of Hope, by Ray Stedman, is another FREE resource from Our Daily Bread Ministries. Part of the Discovery Series, it’s available in print and digital formats.

UPDATE: This book is archived and no longer available from Our Daily Bread. However, you can still find the Kindle edition on Amazon.

7. Follow the Path of Jesus

Behind the Easter Story is a documentary by Day of Discovery, a television program produced by Our Daily Bread. It offers a fascinating look at Jesus’ path through Jerusalem on the days leading to His crucifixion.

Using a limestone scale model of the ancient city, Mart DeHaan and Jimmy DeYoung retrace the footsteps of Jesus – from His entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to His glorious Easter morning resurrection.

I am the resurrection and the life.
