What is Homemaker’s Friend?

Homemaker’s Friend is a daily planner for homemakers. Created by Sue Hooley (a mom of six), it helps you schedule your daily duties at, and away from, home. It’s a dream to use, and it can help you become a better time manager.

Time management is so important for busy homemakers. How you manage your time can determine the state of your home – smooth running or in constant turmoil.

But until you know exactly where your time goes, it’s hard to organize your days. Hooley recommends tracking your time for at least a week to see how you spend each day.

“Learn to think of your day in sections,” she wrote, “… morning, afternoon, evening. It’s important to learn where pockets of time are and how to make the best use of them.”

Why I Use Homemaker’s Friend

I discovered daily planners in high school. They helped me keep track of my classes, work shifts, and extracurricular activities. They were indispensable to my library and foster care work. But when I became a full-time homemaker, I stopped using planners.

Until now.

I don’t have children or work outside the home, so you might find this hard to believe. But my everyday commitments often overwhelm me.

When we became homeowners, my household duties escalated. Because of my husband’s health issues (he’s a disabled veteran), I also assumed lawn care duties.

The language technology firm I work for increased my part-time hours. And my “new” migrated blog is having a growth spurt (join my email list for updates).

What’s more, I’m the primary caregiver for two cats. Affectionate, attention-seeking “fur children.” They’re my steady companions, and that’s okay because I love them SO much!

With all this going on, I can’t help feeling overworked and overwhelmed sometimes. I need a good way to schedule my days and manage my time, and Homemaker’s Friend fits the bill.

Why You Need Homemaker’s Friend

Your needs are different than mine. Like Hooley, you might have a quiver-full of kids at home. You might work full time or run a home business from home. Or maybe you’re the primary caregiver for an aging parent.

Learning to manage your days and duties can help you cope with daily stress. That’s where Homemaker’s Friend comes in. As you track your time and make adjustments, the stress will diminish. Trust me, it works!

It’s likely you have thought about using technology to plan your days. Digital planners are convenient, but going analog gives you an edge. It spurs you to put pen to paper and create a doable schedule.

Furthermore, the writing process refreshes your memory and sharpens your focus. It can make you wiser, too! Writing things down helps you “count your days and make your days count” (Psalm 90:12).

Be a Better Time Manager

In my experience, a daily planner can transform your busy days. It can help you balance your business, housework, and home life so you get more done AND have time to relax. Take it from Sue Hooley:

“The busier I am, the more I use my planner,” she said. “It helps me balance homemaking [with other duties] to create a realistic schedule.”
