When someone you know is sick, it’s easy to feel helpless. But you can help your loved one through prayer. If a friend or family member is struggling with illness, you can pray for their healing and recovery.
Today, I will share a prayer for my brother when he was very ill. I modeled it after a prayer I found online at the time. Feel free to use it as a guide to pray for your loved one. Add, edit, or change the words to make it your own.

How to Pray for Healing
The Bible tells us to pray for healing from God (Jeremiah 17:14). When you pray for sick loved ones, ask God to heal them. Ask for His mercy in sickness and in health (Matthew 10:28). And don’t forget to pray for their salvation.

Now, here’s a prayer for your sick loved one. It’s based on a prayer for my brother, but you can use it for your friend, family member, or yourself. Use his or her name when you talk to God, and speak to Him from your heart.
Let’s pray.
A Short Prayer for Healing
Dear Lord, I love my brother and call on you now in a special way. It’s through your power that Billy was born. Every breath he takes, every morning he wakes – every moment of every hour – he lives under your power.
I ask you to touch him now with that same power. If you created him from nothing, you can recreate him. Fill him with your healing power and cast out anything that shouldn’t be in him.
Mend the broken parts, Lord. Remove the abnormal cells. Open the blocked vessels. Rebuild the damaged areas. Remove the inflammation and cleanse the infection. Let your healing love pass through his body so it can function the way you intend it to function.
Lord, heal Billy and restore him to full health – in mind and body – so he can serve you the rest of his life. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Wrapping It Up
I know from experience that not everyone receives healing. Billy died shortly after I prayed this prayer. But God gave me a little more time with him, and He kept my heart soft towards Him. God helped me accept His plan for my brother (and our family) – and even get excited about heaven.
As you pray for healing, thank God that your loved one belongs to Him. Be grateful God is in control of everything that happens in our lives – from our first breath to our last sigh. Place your hope and trust in Him. ◻️
