7 Awesome Ways to Prepare Your Heart for Easter

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and the new life He gives us when we put our faith in Him. As we make preparations at home and church, let’s prepare our hearts to reflect on the cross.

When we trust in Jesus for salvation, He gives us a new heart, a new spirit – a brand new life (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our Daily Bread Ministries has free and low-cost resources to help us celebrate this new life, and to share the joy with others.

Today, we’ll look at seven awesome ways to prepare your heart for Easter. Awesome, yet simple and full of truth. Things you can do right now to grow closer to God.

What is Our Daily Bread Ministries?

Our Daily Bread Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is best known for a monthly devotional called Our Daily Bread.

I discovered these booklets as a kid growing up in the 1970s. Then known as Radio Bible Class, the ministry actually began in 1938 as Detroit Bible Class – a radio show by Martin R. DeHaan.

In 1995, the organization changed its name to RBC Ministries to reflect a vast and growing array of biblical resources. Besides devotionals, it produced books, videos, music, and more.

The ministry rebranded again in 2015, this time as Our Daily Bread Ministries. The new (and current) name allows it to better communicate its identity.

Through its devotional publications, Our Daily Bread “helps people grow closer in their relationship with God, become more like Jesus, and respond to God’s Word through the conviction of the Holy Spirit.”

Sound good?

Start your FREE subscription to Our Daily Bread to receive monthly (or quarterly) booklets by mail. If you prefer digital versions, sign up for daily email devotionals or video clips sent right to your inbox. And a mobile app keeps everything at your fingertips.

Now that you know more about this long-serving ministry, let’s get ready for reflection. Here are seven ways to prepare for Easter with helpful resources from Our Daily Bread.

7 Ways to Get Ready for Easter

Despite the name changes, Our Daily Bread Ministries has kept the same focus throughout the years – to spread God’s love around the world. Here are seven ways to prepare your heart for Easter and share the good news with others.

1. Share the Hope of Jesus

Jesus said, “I came that [you] may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). This Easter, as you celebrate YOUR new life, share the hope of Jesus with your family, friends, or neighbors.

A New Life, the Easter edition of Our Daily Bread, makes it easy to share the gospel. Our Daily Bread will send you copies of the booklet for any gift to the ministry. But don’t wait! There’s a limited supply available this time of year.

2. Renew Your Walk With God

Want a fresh relationship with God? Read The Love of God by Oswald Chambers, a twentieth century Scottish evangelist. Chambers is best known for his classic devotional book My Utmost for His Highest.

For a paperback copy of The Love of God, visit Our Daily Bread Publishing. If you would like a hardcover or Kindle edition, you can buy the book on Amazon.

3. Download Easter Graphics

As a Christian blogger, I felt thrilled to find this Easter graphics kit from Our Daily Bread. What’s more, it’s FREE! What a great way to share the hope of Jesus with your email recipients and social networks.

The Easter kit is a ZIP file of email, screen, and social media graphics with a New Life theme. It contains print-ready images to use for your church projects or internet outreach. Check it out.

4. Celebrate Easter with Music

Prepare your heart for Easter by listening to Easter music. Classical Praise: Easter is a beautiful recording by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

If you like symphony music, you’ll love this offer from Discovery House Publishers. I have the CD in my personal music collection and listen to it throughout the year. If you prefer to stream your music, Amazon sells the digital version.

5. Read Easter Devotions

Get ready for Easter with a FREE 10-day reading plan from Our Daily Bread Ministries. The first entry arrived in my inbox earlier this month. Take a minute to sign up for the plan right now. It will remind you WHO Jesus is.

Also, Blessings of the Cross is a nice supplement to this Easter reading plan, and it’s also FREE. The book comes from FaithGateway, an online community of Christian authors and readers.

6. Study the Biblical Narrative

Did Jesus really die on the cross and come back to life? Our Daily Bread admits this is hard for us to comprehend, yet … “the gospel message is not complete without the brutal sacrifice and beautiful resurrection of Jesus.”

A Rumor of Hope, by Ray Stedman, is another FREE resource from Our Daily Bread Ministries. Part of the Discovery Series, it’s available in print and digital formats.

📢 UPDATE – This book is no longer available from Our Daily Bread Ministries, but you can find the Kindle edition on Amazon.

7. Follow the Path of Jesus

Behind the Easter Story is a documentary from Day of Discovery, part of Our Daily Bread Ministries. It provides a look at Jesus’ journey through Jerusalem on the days leading to His crucifixion.

Using a limestone scale model of the city, Mart DeHaan and Jimmy DeYoung retrace the Lord’s footsteps. From His Palm Sunday entry into Jerusalem to His resurrection on Easter morning.

Conclusion

There you have it – seven ways to prepare your heart for Easter. With resources from Our Daily Bread, plus a few bonus tools. Use them to spread the good news of Jesus to others, and to celebrate your new life when you put your trust in Him.

Happy Easter to you – and a blessed springtime, too! ◻️
