How to Pray for Your Husband’s Job Interview

How to Pray for Your Husband's Job Interview - Plus, a Prayer

Last year, God moved us from Texas to Florida for my husband’s job. Now, a new opportunity could take us back again. It would mean a promotion for Mitch, with better hours and pay. It would also move us closer to our families.

I have mixed feelings about moving again so soon, but I support my husband’s work endeavors. I’m also curious to see what lies ahead for me. Most of all, I want to do God’s will and follow His lead.

As a Christian wife and homemaker, I want to be a prayer warrior for my husband. So today, I’m praying for Mitch on the blog. Feel free to use my prayer as a guide to help you pray for your husband. Add, edit, or change the words and make it your own.

How to Pray for Your Husband's Job Interview - Plus, a Prayer

How to Pray for Your Husband’s Job Interview

How should you should pray for your husband’s job interview? I like John MacArthur’s answer. Someone once asked the well-known pastor how to pray for a spouse. His response?

“Often and long.”

Yes, that’s HOW you pray for your husband – his job interview, career path, work life. That’s how you pray about his walk with the Lord. Often and long.

As for WHAT to pray, my advice is this: Speak to God from your heart. Prayer is intimate, personal communication with God. A one-on-one conversation. Heart-to-heart time.

So talk to God about your husband’s job – or lack of one. Tell Him what’s on your mind. That’s what He wants to hear. And that’s what I’ll share in this post.

Let’s pray.

A Prayer for My Husband’s Job Interview

Dear Lord,

My husband, Mitch, has a job interview this week. A phone interview for a job in Texas. The position would draw on his work experience but stretch him in new ways, too. Thank you for giving him this opportunity.

I’m glad I can come to you in prayer for Mitch. Thank you for caring about his employment needs and his desire for career advancement. And thank you for getting him ready for future retirement, too.

The Measure of a Man, by Gene A. Getz

I know you are with him this week and always. I know you’ll be with him during the job interview, looking out for his best interests.

Prepare My Husband

Before he meets the interview panel, prepare things as only you can. Ready the meeting place and time. Set the tone for discussion.

Since first impressions matter, help Mitch become the man you created him to be. Authentic, natural, and relaxed. Help his interviewers see through any tensions that exist.

And give my husband peace, Lord. Call to mind the wisdom and knowledge that’s already there. Whatever the outcome, let the whole interview process be a blessing to everyone there.

Work All Things for Good

Through the years, I’ve seen you open many doors for my husband. For both of us. If this new role in his company is right for him, let nothing stand in the way of a job offer.

On the other hand, if this job is not your will for Mitch, make it clear to everyone in the room. Close this door of opportunity and show him the next step. He loves you, Lord, and he’s willing to work wherever you lead him.

Bless Mitch as he answers the tough questions this week, and bless those who will interview him by phone. Give them wisdom to choose the right person for the job, and give Mitch peace to accept their decision.

Lord, I know you will work things out for good – for my husband’s benefit and your glory (Romans 8:28). That’s who you are.

I love you and trust you, and I’m excited to see what lies ahead for Mitch and me. Thank you for your provision and blessing in our lives.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Wrapping It Up

I hope this prayer for my husband’s job interview will help you pray for your husband. Whether he’s looking for work, mulling a change, or planning for retirement – it’s important that both of you trust God.

And if he’s not a believer – that’s more reason to pray for him!

The Lord knows everything about us, yet He wants us to seek Him and confide in Him. He wants us to know that He’ll hold us close no matter what turns life may take.

God bless you and your husband on this journey together. May you recognize and accept His will as you place your trust in Him. ◻️

  • Hello Annette,

The job interview prayer for your husband is wonderful, I have been praying for days for my husband to help him prepare for a job interview he has today. It would take us back to Boston a place we both love. This prayer helped me to be direct and pray to God for the help and strength my husband needs for his interview.

    Thank you,
    Marcia Contreras

    • You’re welcome, Marcia. I’m glad my prayer post was helpful to you. Let me know how the job search goes, and thanks for stopping by to read and comment. (By the way, our neighbors are from Boston. They like it here in Florida, but they do miss home – and their Patriots!)

  • Good morning!

I thank God for this blog.

It just came at the right time of our marriage challenges. As I am writing this email, I have prayer in my heart for God to bless my husband with the job of his qualifications and experience.

Since my husband got sick with blood clot on his arm in February, and by the grace of God he survived death because of that attack.

Now he is looking for work, he is healed and strong. He is applying but it is difficult for him to get the job. Some of the organization they are inviting him for interviews and some they called him, but unsuccessful results. We are in of prayers. Our lives is in mess. No finances to pay rentals. I mean we need God urgent intervention right now.

This blog I believe it will keep me going on my knees for my husband.

I lost my business because I had to take care of him since February because of his illness.

We need God. Please pray for us in South Africa.

    Best love,
    Mrs. Mniki

  • Dear Mrs. Mniki,

Welcome to Savoring Home! And thank you for sharing your prayer need with us. I am sorry to hear about your struggles. I know first-hand how much a health problem or financial stress can challenge a marriage.

I pray for God’s intervention as you and your husband seek His will for your lives. I know it seems like a mess right now, but God can turn your mess into something beautiful.

Here are two Bible verses that encourage me during times like this: Philippians 4:19 and Proverbs 3:5-6. The first one promises “… God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

The second says to “trust in the Lord with all your heart” and not try to figure things out on your own. Pray to Him, listen to Him, follow Him – and He will show you the way.

Thank you again for your comment. Please come back soon and let us know how God is working things out.

    Blessings, Annette

  • Hi Annette,

Thank you so much for this prayer, it’s exactly what I want to say to God as I pray for my husbands’s interview today. He’s been out of work for 3 months since the company he worked for closed down. This is the second time we are going through this. The last time he was out of work for 7 months. God has been faithful throughout those times.

I pray for him to get a stable job with enough benefits to support our growing family. We’ve been married for 2 years, but the challenges we’ve been experiencing have been so overwhelming, I don’t know how we have made it this far. I love my husband very much and I want the best for him. I pray everyday that things go well for him.

I believe in the power of a praying woman and wife, and I believe God hears our prayers and knows all of our needs. We must just be patient and wait on him.

    Have a blessed day,
    Mrs. Songongo

  • Thank you Annette for the prayer. This is what I wanted to tell God today when my husband is going for an interview. I believe that God heard me even before I open my mouth. I trust God that he can change my situation.

    • You’re welcome, Rosalia. I’m so glad my prayer post was helpful to you. You and your husband are in my prayers today. May all go well, and according to His will. God bless you!

  • My husband Hector lost his job in September 2019. He is a God fearing man with a good heart and excellent work ethic. He goes to interview after interview and submits many applications and still has not been able to obtain gainful employment. He is a hard worker and this has affected him tremendously. Please pray that he will land a good job soon. Thank you.

    • Good evening, Elsy!

Thank you for sharing your prayer request with us. I have prayed for your husband – for BOTH of you – tonight. May the Lord open doors of new opportunities for your husband as he takes steps to find a good job.

Keep us posted, okay? And thanks again for stopping by.

      Blessings, Annette

  • Hi Annette,

My husband will be going for his interview in a few hours time. This prayer is so handy. He is not a believer in God yet and I prayed that he will be one soon. Despite him not a believer yet, I still prayed that his interview will be successful. I trust that whatever the decision it may be, it is all according to God’s plan for him and for us. Thank you.

    • Hi, Patricia. Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I’m glad this prayer helped you to pray for your husband’s job interview AND his heart. May God speak to his spirit and guide him in truth and righteousness. God bless you both!

  • Please join me and pray for my husband. We have been together for almost 9 good years. [He is] without job. Please help me pray for him. My family needs him getting a job, and [I have] written you with tears. Help a sister.

    • Hi, Sanyaolu. Thank you so much for reading my post and leaving a comment. I can feel the emotion in your words, and I want you to know that I am praying for you and your husband. May the Lord richly bless you!

    • I hope your husband has found work by now. If not, I pray the power of God Almighty over him and your family that a way of providing for his family be made possible very soon. Put the right person in the right place to bring success in a good job. Amen in the Father’s name that his will be done.

  • Hi Annette, greetings from Florida. I’m so glad I found this prayer on your blog. My husband has been out of work since November. He has interviewed a few times, and although he has made it to the “final” round of the process twice, he still has not been offered a job. I’m a teacher, so no pay for the summer, and I know the burden of not providing for our family is a heavy weight on him. Would you please pray for the right opportunity to open up to him soon? I have faith it is coming, but the waiting and strain of no income is difficult on all of us. Thank you so much. God bless!

    • Hi, Tracey. It’s good to meet another Floridian, and I’m so glad you found my blog! Thank you for sharing your prayer needs with us. I will gladly pray for you and your husband (and family) as he waits for a job offer. May God bless his efforts, and may the wait be short!

  • Thank you Annette. Today I find myself praying for God to open doors of opportunities for my husband’s job. He’s sixty years old, he’s had some very demanding, stressful jobs. I’ve been praying for a move to North Georgia mountains. I’ve lived in Florida nearly all my life. I truly want to experience living in the mountains with a change of seasons to enjoy.

My husband is very talented and marketable and had lots of experience in several jobs. But, we have to be able to have a job that would support us living in North Georgia. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of job opportunities so far showing up there that would suit my husband and his experiences and needs in employment. So my prayer is that, if it be in God’s will, he would provide an open window or door of work opportunity in or around the area we are hoping to move to, to be near my family and to have the mountain views.

Praying for a good job that will be a job my husband can work at till he is ready to retire in the next 7 to 10 years. Thank you for praying for us and for guidance from God my Father. ?

    • Greetings from one Annette to another! Thank you so much for sharing your prayer request here. I’m happy to pray for you and your husband. My own husband was “forced” into early retirement before he was ready to leave work, for medical reasons. We both know from experience how challenging it can be to find work or change your career in midlife.

Although most of our family live in Texas (and we do miss the Lone Star State), we’ve decided to retire here and are currently building a home in Ocala. But the North Georgia mountains sound lovely! Please keep us posted on your husband’s job search and your move to Georgia (if it is God’s will).

      Blessings, Annette

  • I am sitting in my husband’s truck as he is in his interview right now. I have been praying all day for him and those who are doing the interview. I was looking for scripture to ease the fear and give peace that only God can give. Yours was the first post I saw. Thank you for the prayer I read. It has been a long road for my husband, but God has blessed us in so many ways. My husband lost his job after 25 years and we both were devastated. God has opened doors for him, but nothing steady. Thank you for the prayers.

    • Hi, Melodie. Thank you for sharing your prayer needs with us. I hope your husband had a successful job interview this week. I will continue to pray for both of you during this difficult time. Please keep us posted, and may God richly bless your family as you seek His will and favor.

  • Hi, thank you for your prayer. I will say it often today. My husband has his first interview for a position in which he is highly qualified. There are candidates within the group that are also applying. I am praying he shines and feels at ease during this process. Thank you again.

  • Thank you Annette, your words in this prayer speak volumes to what I truly wish for my husband. We prayed together for a job yesterday to be clear and work with our schedule as im a full-time RN and he needs a day shift. He got a call not even five minutes after praying and has his interview in 30 minutes!

    • That’s awesome, Suzanne! Thanks so much for sharing this, and please keep us posted. Praying now for you and your husband.

      Blessings, Annette

  • Such a beautiful prayer. I just read it thinking of my own husband who has a really tough job interview today. He returned to college and was studying for almost 5 years (addiction counselling). It was tough on us all, he was gone to the other side of the country for 4 nights a week and I was at home with our 4 kids and returned to work full time but it was a choice we both made for our family. So please God, I hope he gets this job. So many doors have been shut but I just hope this is the one for him. He has great faith and is a really good person. He even opened a clinic in our home town and gave free counselling for those who needed it and their families – got them into rehab etc. if needed, but there is only so much you can do for free when you have 4 kids and a mortgage. So I am asking and praying Lord you guide him today and help him in his interview. ?

    • Hello, Linda. Thank you for reading my prayer – and for sharing your own prayer here. I said a prayer just now for you and your family, as your husband seeks employment. Please come back and let us know how things are going.

      Blessings, Annette

Many thanks for the kind and strong prayer. My husband has been working a hard labor job for the past 3 years. He has an upcoming interview today as a nutritionist for a rehab facility. This prayer is perfect. I feel the Holy Spirit working in us.

    • Hi, Yesenia! Thank you for the nice comment. I hope your husband had a very good job interview today. I’ve said a prayer for both of you. God bless, and please keep us posted.

  • Thank you for sharing how to pray for my husband’s interview today. He is not a believer but walked in while praying this prayer aloud and he let me pray these words over him minutes before his phone call. I will trust God to direct us in this process.

    • That’s wonderful, Reena! Somehow, your comment got sent to my spam folder – so I only found it this evening. I hope the phone interview went well. May God bless you and your husband this holiday season and in the year to come. Merry Christmas!
