Homemaker's Friend: A Flexible Planner for Busy Homemakers

As a homemaker with two part-time jobs, it’s essential that I organize my daily activities. Household chores, work assignments, personal appointments. Playtime with the cats! There is SO much to keep track of.

📢 UPDATE – This post highlights an earlier version of Homemaker’s Friend. The NEW 2023 edition is now available on Amazon and from the publisher.

Enter Homemaker’s Friend.

This flexible day planner is ideal for busy homemakers like you and me. It’s a polished version of the homemade planners Sue Hooley created years ago, as a young wife and mother.

Homemaker’s Friend provides a bit of freedom from the stresses of the day. It gives you more control over your busy schedule. It helps you get organized so you don’t get overwhelmed.

A Flexible Day Planner

“Twenty years ago when I was a young homemaker, I read Get More Done in Less Time by Donna Otto,” said Hooley. “She recommended … a simple planner to keep track of duties, appointments, and commitments.”

“It will be your friend for life,” wrote Otto, and she was right. Her statement rings true – for me, Hooley, and the thousands of women who use Homemaker’s Friend to simplify their lives.

My day planner is a friend and helper I use every day. From housework to yard work, blogging to media tasks, doctor appointments to vet visits. I use Homemaker’s Friend every day. It’s like having a personal assistant.

I discovered the planner two years ago, when Hooley sent me one for review (read my reviews here and here). It’s such a flexible, versatile planner. I liked the special features right away, especially the tear-out shopping lists.

What’s in the New Edition?

The new edition of Homemaker’s Friend is much like my current planner. The spiral-bound book (5.5 X 8.5 inches) has a quiet, restful cover and seven tabbed sections:

  • Yearly Overview
  • Monthly Spread
  • Weekly Spread
  • Task Lists
  • Project Lists
  • Information
  • Shopping Lists

Hooley peppered the planner with lovely quotes and scriptures to inspire you. She included a bonus, too – FREE menu planning worksheets that coordinate with the planner.

My Favorite Features

I like so many features of this versatile planner. The perforated shopping lists are one of my favorite features. I use them to streamline my visits to Aldi, Publix, and Walmart.

The sturdy pocket in the back of the book is a good catchall for small items that can get lost. I use it for coupons, receipts, postage stamps, notes, and other scraps of paper.

Best of all is the planner’s compact size, too – not too big, not too small. It’s so easy to tuck the planner in my laptop bag and take it with me when I leave the house. So convenient.

Wrapping It Up

The flexibility of Homemaker’s Friend makes it perfect for busy homemakers. It can make YOUR busy days a little less stressful. This year’s planner has been a great help to me, so I’m curious to see what the new book can do.
